Ms. Wijewardane has been a member of the Foreign Service of Sri Lanka since 1988 and is on leave from her Government at her current post at CNS, Monterey. Previously, she served as Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Austria, including Governor for Sri Lanka on the IAEA Board of Governors (2005-2007) as well as Permanent Representative to the UNOV and CTBTO. Her diplomatic postings include Geneva, as well as in Malaysia and the Philippines, in the rank of Deputy High Commissioner and Deputy Chief of Mission. She has held several senior posts at the Ministry of External Affairs in Sri Lanka, including Director-General of the United Nations Division. She was a (former) member of the UNSG’s Panel of Government Experts on Verification. She holds an M.Phil degree from the University of Cambridge, UK (Chevening Scholar) and a master’s degree in International Relations, University of Colombo.
