Kent Calder

Director, Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies, Johns Hopkins University
Security Crisis and Trade Disputes

Dr. Calder is currently director of the Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies in the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at the Johns Hopkins University, where he has also taught for the past nine years. He previously served as Special Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to Japan with Ambassadors Walter Mondale, Thomas Foley, and Howard Baker, as Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and as Special Advisor to the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Prior to SAIS, Dr. Calder taught for twenty years at Princeton University and four years at Harvard University. He is the author of six books and the co-author of two more, and co-editor with Francis Fukuyama of East Asian Multilateralism.
