Teng Jianqun (滕建群)

Colonel Teng (Ret.) is the director and research fellow of the Centre for Arms Control at the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS), a think tank in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing. He has worked at CIIS since his retirement in September 2004. He served for 25 years first in the PLA Navy (1979-1992) and later in the Academy of Military Science. He was the editor-in-chief of the Academy of Military Science’s journal World Military Review and also an assistant research fellow there. Dr. Teng has published several dozen articles on the issues of arms control, disarmament, and nonproliferation, in addition to authoring numerous reports and books. He earned his B.A. in English literature from the PLA Naval Communication College (1983); one master’s degree in military science from the PLA Academy of Military Science (1995); one master’s degree on South Asian Area Studies from SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies, London University (1999)); and his Ph.D. in international relations from Beijing University (2006).
