Panel Description
The year 2024 has been widely called the year of elections. Over 60 countries around the world will hold elections, with more than half of the world’s population casting a ballot. The most consequential of these elections for the future of Asia will be the November U.S. elections. The presidential election will most likely see incumbent president Joe Biden face off against former president Donald Trump, even as third-party candidates are promising alternative choices. Control of the U.S. Congress will also be decided with all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and 34 seats in the U.S. Senate being contested. What are the competing visions and promises of the major candidates towards Asia? What should the region expect from a second Biden administration or a returned Trump administration?
