Dr. Shin is the director of the Division of North Korean Military Studies at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses (KIDA). He first joined KIDA in 1995 and served as the director of the Division of Defense Policy Studies and the chief of the Defense Issue Task Force. Currently, Dr. Shin holds various advisory posts, including the Advisory Board of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Trade and Unification to the National Assembly. Previously, Dr. Shin was on a leave of absence from KIDA for his governmental service with the Ministry of National Defense as a senior policy advisor to the Defense Minister (2009-2010). Dr. Shin received his S.J.D. in international law and the use of force from the Georgetown University Law Center, an LL.M. from the Graduate School of Law at Seoul National University, and a B.A. from Chungnam National University. He specializes in North Korean issues, international law, and defense policy.
