Director Shin Chang-Hoon presented “The Evolution of the Regime and Its Sustainability” at the 2014 Nuclear Knowledge Summit which was held at the Novotel Convention Center in Amsterdam from March 21st to 22nd.

Under the overarching theme of “Towards Sustainable Nuclear Security,” the 2014 Nuclear Knowledge Summit was one of the official side events to the 2014 Nuclear Security Summit. The 2014 Nuclear Knowledge Summit was co-hosted by the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, Netherlands Institute of International Relations (Clingendaeil), and the Fissile Materials Working Group (FMWG) of the United States.

Right after the closing of the Nuclear Knowledge Summit, Director Shin participated in Nuclear Security Governance Experts Group (NSGEG) workshop as a moderator to discuss the nuclear security framework convention and its next steps.

After attending the Nuclear Knowledge Summit in Amsterdam, Director Shin traveled to The Hague to attend the third Nuclear Security Summit at the World Forum from March 23rd to March 25th. Director Shin, as the official nuclear security expert designated by the Dutch government, attended a media program to carry out interviews by the media from the participating countries of the Summit.

On March 25th, Director Shin attended the Nuclear Knowledge Summit presentation event as the panel at the main press center. He made public the main points of its discussions to the representatives and the reporters of the Summit participating countries.

On the evening, Dr Shin attended as a talk show(“PANDORA’S PROMISE”) panelist to the international film festival “The Movies that Matter festival” hosted by the Amnesty International. In celebration to hosting the Nuclear Security Summit at The Hague, this year’s film festival screened five movies including ‘Countdown to Zero’, and then invited nuclear security experts to discuss the subject.

Dr. SHIN Chang-Hoon is a research fellow in the Nuclear Policy and Technology Program in the Center for Global Governance at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies. Previously, Dr. Shin taught public international law, international organizations, international economic law and the law of the sea at Seoul National University and Myongji University. Dr. Shin has been an active participant in international conferences held at the International Maritime Organization and is a member of the Compliance Group established by the 1996 London Protocol to the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter. Dr. Shin’s research focuses on dispute settlement, the law of the sea, international environmental law, international humanitarian law and the study of the nonproliferation regime. He received a B.S. and an L.L.M from Seoul National University, and a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford.
