On October 31, the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, together with the Brookings Institution and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, held the Third Annual Asan-Brookings-VUB Conference titled “Bridging the Trans-Pacific and Trans-Atlantic Divide.”
Session I was hosted by J. James Kim, senior fellow of the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, under the theme of “Links among Allies, Partners, and Coalitions in the Pacific.” Jennifer Oh (Associate Professor, Ewha Womans University), Mireya Solis (Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution), Robert Rapson (Former Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, U.S. Embassy Seoul), and Ramon Pacheco Pardo (KF-VUB Korea Chair Holder, Vrije Universiteit Brussel) discussed common interests and cooperation between ROK and the U.S., and among allies and partners in the Asia-Pacific region.
Session II was hosted by Michael Reiterer, distinguished professor of Brussels School of Governance, under the theme of “Links among Allies, Partners, and Coalitions in Trans-Atlantic Relations.” In the session, Lee Jae-seung (Professor, Korea University), Tongfi Kim (Senior Researcher, Vrije Universiteit Brussel), Duyeon Kim (Adjunct Senior Fellow, Center for a New American Security), Andrew Yeo (Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution), and Shin Sangmin (Research Fellow, The Asan Institute for Policy Studies) exchanged European and American perspectives on the link between the trans-Atlantic and the trans-Pacific alliances and discussed future cooperation among countries in Asia and Europe.
