Junichi Chano

Visiting Scholar, John Hopkins University

Mr. Chano is a Visiting Scholar at the Edwin O. Reischauer Center of Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, DC. Previously, he was the Executive Assistant to the President of the Japan Foundation, an independent Japanese administrative institution implementing international cultural exchange programs under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Japan Foundation in 1982 and served as the Director of the Center for Global Partnership NY (1996-99), Managing Director of the Intellectual Exchange Department (2007-09), and Managing Director of the Financial Affairs Department (2009-10). Mr. Chano received a Master’s degree in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in sociology from Doshisha University, where he currently teaches post-war US-Japan cultural relations and American philanthropy as an adjunct lecturer.
