Daniel Twining
Dr. Daniel Twining is Director and Senior Fellow for Asia at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. He previously served as a member of the U.S. Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff, as the Foreign Policy Advisor to U.S. Senator John McCain (2001-04), and as a staff member of the U.S. Trade Representative (1997). Since leaving government, he has served as an Associate of the U.S. National Intelligence Council. Dr. Twining has taught South Asian Security Studies at Georgetown University and was an instructor to U.S. Army officers up to the rank of three-star general preparing for deployment to theaters in South and East Asia. He writes regular columns for Foreign Policy and Nikkei and is on the editorial board of The Asan Forum. Dr. Twining received his Ph.D. from Oxford University where he was a Fulbright/Oxford Scholar.
