On Tuesday, December 24, 2013, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Center at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies hosted a closed roundtable discussion with Maj. Gen. Sameh Seif Elyazal, Chairman of the Al Gomhouria Center for Political and Security Studies in Cairo, Egypt.

One of Egypt’s most prominent strategic thinkers, Maj. Gen. Elyazal held a wide-ranging discussion on Egypt’s ongoing political transition and the future prospects for democracy, political Islam, and civil-military relations. He also discussed Egypt’s relations with regional powers and East Asia in light of its ongoing transition.

Mr. Noh Kyu-duk, Director General of the Korean Peninsula Peace Regime Bureau at the Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered welcoming remarks while Dr. Choi Kang, Vice President of the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, moderated the meeting.
