On September 25, the Asan Institute for Policy Studies and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) co-hosted a strategic dialogue titled, “Foreign Policy in a New Era: The ROK and U.S.”
The strategic dialogue was a historic moment as Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa gave her first public speech in Washington D.C. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of the ROK-U.S. alliance and also argued that a diplomatic solution is the first and foremost preferred approach to solving the North Korean crisis.
Her full speech can be viewed at: https://www.c-span.org/video/?434513-1/south-korean-foreign-minister-madeleine-albright-discuss-north-korean-crisis
The strategic dialogue also included a moderated discussion between former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Minister Kang. During the expert panel discussion, panelists discussed the ROK-U.S. alliance and how they could manage the North Korean nuclear issue.
