On Thursday, January 7, the Asan Institute for Policy Studies held a closed roundtable with Mr. Michael Schiffer, senior advisor and counselor to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The discussion concerned a follow-up from North Korea’s fourth nuclear test and a strategic assessment of how to affect change in the security sphere with alliances in Northeast Asia, particularly in relation to the roles of China and the U.S.

Michael Schiffer is senior advisor and counselor to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. From 2009 to 2012, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs.
