On Thursday, July 18, 2013, the Center for the Humanities and the Asan Academy at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies co-hosted a Special Lecture with Prof. Michael Puett, Professor of Chinese History in the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University.
In a speech titled “Confucianism and the Rise of China,” Prof. Puett gave an overview of traditional East Asian spirits of the humanities, especially focusing on Confucianism and its role in Chinese history and politics.
* Asan Special Lecture for the Humanities is the first official event which is co-hosted by the Center for the Humanities (established in April 2013) and the Asan Academy at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies. Since the Asan Academy seeks to cultivate Korea’s future leaders with global perspectives, profound knowledge of the humanities, and community spirit, this lecture is mainly planned for both Asan Young Fellows (students from the Asan Academy) and young college students who are interested in the Asan Academy.
