A New Model of China-US Relations
- Session: Session 4
- Date/Time: November 15, 2013 / 10:40-12:30
Panel Description
Chinese leaders have suggested a new model of China-US relations, a “new type of relationship between major countries.” On the other hand, the US is trying to enhance its access to the region under the theme of Rebalancing, or Pivot to Asia. Presidents Xi Jinping and Barack Obama have both tried to cast China-US relations in a new light and avoid the tensions that have historically accompanied the rise of new powers. It is uncertain how the relations between the two will evolve and what kind of impact it can bear on the regional strategic landscape. With an unprecedented number of high-level exchanges taking place each year, can Chinese and American leaders articulate a new model of relations?
