The Future of the Alliance
- Session: Session III / Amphitheater (Ronald Reagan Building)
- Date/Time: June 24, 2013 / 15:40-16:40
Panel Description
The ROK-US Alliance is multifaceted. While most observers focus on the security dimensions, the most recent Joint Declaration also covers a broad range of issues, such as the economy, cooperation on global issues, energy, science, technology, cyber partnerships, as well as people-to-people relations and climate change. The alliance is also greater than the sum of its parts. That is, the lessons we can draw from the past and present suggest that the alliance almost certainly has implications for East Asia. As we look to the future, how do we see the alliance developing and shaping the dynamics of East Asia? How might these changes, in turn, impact the alliance?
