Dr. Kohno is currently the director of the Research Institute of Contemporary Japanese Systems at Waseda University. He also serves as research affiliate for the Waseda Institute for Advanced Studies and as an advisor for the university’s International Affairs Division. Before joining Waseda, he taught at the University of British Columbia (1994-1998), at Aoyama Gakuin University (1998-2003), and he was a national fellow at the Hoover Institution (1996-1997). Outside Waseda, Dr. Kohno now serves as a visiting researcher at the National Diet Library of Japan and as senior officer at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Since 2009 he has appeared regularly on Fuji-TV news programs as an expert commentator. Dr. Kohno received his Bachelor of Laws in 1985 from Sophia University, an M.A. in international relations in 1987 from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in political science in 1994 from Stanford University.
