Dr. Leong Mun Yun is the director of the Centre for International Studies at the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. He is also a visiting fellow at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies in Malaysia, where held several positions from 1992 to 2008, including senior fellow and assistant director-general. Previously, he had an academic career in the Universiy of Malaya from 1967 to 1992. He was also the director-general of the Malaysian National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation, as well as secretary-general of the Network of East Asian Think-tanks, Malayisa. In 2009, Dr. Leong was conferred the Order of the Rising Sun with Rosette by the Emperor of Japan for promoting mutual understanding and academic exchange between japan and Malaysia. He holds a B.A. from the University of Illinois, an M.S. from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles.
