Ambassador Shein is the chairman of the Myanmar Institute of Strategic and International Studies. Previously, Ambassador Shein was a career foreign service officer in the Myanmar diplomatic service, which she joined in 1968. She served in the Myanmar diplomatic missions in Bern, Hanoi, Bankok, Dhaka, and Tokyo. She was the deputy director-general of the political department in 1996, where she was later the director general from 1997 to 2001. She was the senior official to ASEAN from 1998 to 2001. She was ambassador to the Republic of Korea from 2001 to 2002, Germany from 2002 to 2005, and ambassador to the UN Office in Geneva from 2005 to 2008. For her government service, she received the Medal for Excellent Performance in Administration (First Class) in 2000. Ambassador Shein holds a B.Sc. and from Yangon University and a master’s in international public policy from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
