The 3rd Asan Memorial Lecture

The Asan Memorial Lecture series was established by the Asan Institute for Policy Studies as one of its signature programs, in keeping with the Institute’s mandate to “provide innovative policy solutions and spearhead public discourse on many of the core issues that Korea, East Asia and the global community face.”
On January 20th, 2011, the Asan Institute for Policy Studies invited Guy Sorman, the noted French philosopher and intellectual, to deliver the Third Asan Memorial Lecture, titled “Should We Fear China?” Professor Sorman acknowledged that China is an economic partner, but he also cautioned that it currently is and will remain an unreliable one because of its domestic unrest and lack of economic innovation. Professor Sorman also offered policy recommendations for how the South Korean government can maintain its positive relations with China.
