The Asan Institute for Policy Studies (President Hahm Chai Bong) hosted the conference titled “Myanmar’s Liberalisation and North Korea” at its 1st floor auditorium.
The conference began with the keynote speech delivered by Professor David Steinberg from Georgetown University. Distinguished experts and scholars on Myanmar and North Korea such as Ko Ko Hlaing, the current chief political advisor of President Thien Sein, Professor Trevor Wilson from Australia National University, gathered to discuss what lessons could be learn from the experience of Myanmar’s recent government reform and liberalization, and examined whether Myanmar’s domestically initiated political reform can be a model for the potential opening of North Korea.
