Biography

Dr. Kim Dong Sung is a researcher in the fields of international relations and he is presently working at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies as its visiting fellow. He received his B.A. in human studies from Seoul National University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from University of Maryland at College Park. He served as the Director of the Center for Northeast Asian and Inter-Korean Affairs, Director of the Planning and Coordination Office, Director of the Center for Studies of Northern Gyeonggi, and Head of the Division of Co-prosperity and Balanced Development at the Gyeonggi Research Institute(GRI). His research areas include international political theory, international political economy, East Asian international politics, US foreign policy, inter-Korean relations, ROK-US relations, US-China relations, and US Forces in Korea. His research goals are the maintenance and attainment of peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula and, before and after the reunification, security and prosperity of ROK and her people. His major publications and research works include 『International Order in Northeast Asia and Its Changes』 (2016), 『Alliance Structure in the Korean Peninsula and South Korea's New Foreign Strategy』 (2011), 『The Governance System of the Local Government’s Inter-Korean Cooperations』 (2011), and 『Discord and Integration: the US Forces and Local Communities in Korea』 (2001). He also co-translated 『Global Studies: Issues and Controversies (Original title: Introduction to Global Studies)』 (2023).
