Jonathan Pollack

Jonathan Pollack

Director, Thornton China Center ; The Brookings Institution

Dr. Pollack is Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy and Director of the John L. Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institution. Before joining Brookings in December 2010, he served as Professor of Asian and Pacific Studies and Chairman of the Strategic Research Department at the U.S. Naval War College, where he is now Professor Emeritus. He was previously affiliated with the RAND Corporation, where he held a variety of senior research and management positions. He has published extensively on Chinese political-military strategy, U.S.-China relations, Korea’s political and security dynamics, and U.S. Asia-Pacific strategy. His major publications include No Exit: North Korea, Nuclear Weapons and International Security (London: International Institute for Strategic Studies, 2011), of which a Korean-language version was published by the Asan Institute for Policy Studies in 2012. His current research focuses on American and Chinese conceptions of East Asian security and their implications for the future regional order.
