Major General Yao Yunzhu is a senior advisor at Beijing Xiangshan Forum. She joined the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in 1970 and held various positions such as deputy director and director of a research office, as well as director of a research center at the Academy of Military Sciences. She had been a visiting scholar at the School of Oriental and African Studies of London University, an Eisenhower Fellow, and a visiting fellow at Harvard University. Her research interests are mainly on security issues in the Asia-Pacific region, with a focus on the Korean Peninsula, China-U.S. military relations, nuclear strategy and policy, international arms control and disarmament. Her works include Post-war American Deterrence: Theories and Policies. Major General Yao received her Ph.D. in Military Science from the Academy of Military Sciences in 1998.
