Lee Chung Min

Dr. Lee Chung Min is a Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. and Chairman of the International Advisory Council at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. Most recently, Dr. Lee was a University Professor at KAIST (2021-2023). Prior to that, he also taught for twenty years at Yonsei University’s Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS). Dr. Lee has worked at leading think tanks and universities in Asia and the United States including the RAND Corporation, the National Institute for Defense Studies (Tokyo), and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. Dr. Lee served as the ROK’s Ambassador for National Security Affairs (2013-2016) and Ambassador for International Security Affairs (2010-2011). Dr. Lee has published widely and is the author of Fault Lines in a Rising Asia (Carnegie, 2016) and The Hermit King: The Dangerous Game of Kim Jong Un (St. Martin’s Press, 2019). His latest book on resetting South Korean defense will be published by IISS/Routledge in fall 2024 as part of its Adelphi series. Dr. Lee received his B.A. in political science from Yonsei University (1982) and his M.A.L.D. and Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University (1988).
