Paul Wolfowitz
Amb. Paul Wolfowitz is a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution after spending more than three decades in public service and higher education. Most recently, Amb. Wolfowitz served as President of the World Bank (2005-2007) and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense (2001-2005) in the George W. Bush administration. From 1994 to 2000, he was the Dean and professor of International Relations at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University. He was the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy under Secretary Dick Cheney (1989-1993) before which he was President Reagan’s Ambassador to Indonesia (1986-1989). Prior to that, at the State Department, he was Director of Policy Planning (1981-1982) and Assistant Secretary for East Asia and Pacific Affairs (1982-1986) for Secretary of State George Shultz. In the 1970’s, he worked as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Regional Programs (1977-1980) and Special Assistant for strategic arms limitations at the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency (1973-1977). Amb. Wolfowitz received his B.A. from Cornell University, where he studied mathematics and molecular biology, and earned his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Chicago.
