Tae Yong Ho

Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea
Session 4 - "The Korean Peninsula and North Korea"

The Honorable Mr. Tae Yong Ho is a Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea representing Gangnam-1st District, Seoul. He is the first Korean from the North to be elected by constituents as a Member of the National Assembly. He currently sits on the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly. Before his escape from the North Korean regime, he worked as a career diplomat of North Korea for over 28 years. His postings were mainly involved with European Affairs. He was stationed in Denmark, Sweden, and the United Kingdom where he held the position of deputy ambassador. After his defection to the Republic of Korea in 2016, he served as an advisory researcher at the Institute for National Security Strategy. After his departure from the institute, he established the Coalition for Change in North Korea Foundation where he served as the chief representative. He received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Beijing Foreign Studies University and a Master of Arts in Law from Kookmin University.
