The Asan Institute for Policy Studies hosted the 4th Asan Institute Symposium on the topic of “U.S. As Viewed By Koreans and Korea As Viewed By Americans in 2010.” Director of the Asan Institute Hahm Chaibong moderated, and Victor Cha (Center for International and Strategic Studies, Georgetown University Professor) and Katrin Katz (former Director for Asian affairs on the U.S. National Security Council) presented the survey results on “Korea As Viewed By Americans.” Kim Jiyoon (Asan Institute) and Woo Jung Yeop (Asan Institute) presented on “U.S. As Viewed By Koreans.” The presentations were followed by discussion on the importance of the survey results on policy-making
The presenters concluded that in the midst of such issues as U.S.-ROK Military Alliance, FTA, and beef import, the perceptions of Americans and Koreans toward each other significantly influence the decisions of American and Korean policy-makers.
