Biography

Lieutenant Colonel Kim Myoung-eung was commissioned as an Army Infantry Second Lieutenant and has since served in various echelons, including the Special Warfare Command, the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, the U.S. 8th Army Korea Army Support Group, the Korea National Defense University, and the Ministry of National Defense, in roles as both a commander and staff officer. He has completed a total of five overseas deployments as part of UN peacekeeping and multinational forces in conflict areas, including East Timor, Iraq, and Lebanon. Notably, he also participated in the deployment of the Akh Unit in UAE, a symbol of Korea-UAE defense cooperation. At the Ministry of National Defense, he served as a Desk Officer for UN PKO Policy and as a Instructor / Chief of the Planning and Operations Branch at the ROK PKO Center. During this period, Lt. Col. Kim was responsible for developing PKO policy, organizing the ADMM-Plus PKO Expert Working Group, and managing PKO ministerial pledge partnerships with the UN Department of Peace Operations, UN Women, and Australia, along with other key countries in the Indo-Pacific region. He holds a Master’s degree in National Security Policy from the Korea National Defense University and has completed the UN Training of Trainers Course and the UN Peacekeeping Contingent Commanders Course, further underscoring his expertise in UN PKO policy and training.
