Mr. Chung is the principal deputy chief for nuclear safety and technical at the US Department of Energy and the Office of Health, Safety and Security. Previously, he was the principal deputy assistant secretary in the DOE’s Environmental Management program, responsible for management of all aspects of the world’s largest nuclear cleanup portfolio. Currently, he is responsible for providing senior leadership, policy, guidance, oversight, and advice on all nuclear safety programs across the complex to ensure sound policy and proper implementation of DOE corporate requirements. He is also providing strategic direction and guidance on lessons learned efforts regarding the Fukushima Daichii accident to continuously improve safety posture in the DOE nuclear complex. He has over 30 years of combined experience in the U.S. government and commercial nuclear industries managing a broad spectrum of nuclear matters. He received a B.S. from the University of Maryland and a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He has also completed an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management.
