Dr. Lavie is a Colonel (ret.) in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Director of the Tami Steinmetz Center for Peace Research at Tel Aviv University, and a Research Fellow at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies. Within the IDF he served as Head of the Palestinian Desk in the Research and Analysis Division of Military Intelligence from 1998-2002, and as an advisor to the head of the Israeli delegation for the negotiations on a final status agreement with the Palestinians from 1999-2001. Dr. Lavie received a Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University, an M.A. in political science from Haifa University, and a B.A. in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies from Tel Aviv University.
