Dr. Funabashi is Chairman of the Rebuild Japan Initiative Foundation. He was formerly Editor-in-Chief and chief diplomatic correspondent in Beijing and Washington DC for the Asahi Shimbun (2002-11). He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the International Crisis Group, the Trilateral Commission, and the Asia Society. He is also a contributing editor at the Washington-based Foreign Policy and for Global Asia. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Vaughn-Ueda Prize, the Japan Press Award, (known as Japan`s ˝Pulitzer Prize˝), and the Ishibashi Tanzan Prize. He has taught at the University of Tokyo’s Public Policy Institute, Korea University, and Asia-Pacific University. He was also a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University (1975-76), a visiting fellow at the Institute for International Economics (1987), and a Donald Keene Fellow at Columbia University (2003). He received his B.A. from the University of Tokyo and his Ph.D. from Keio University.
