Dr. Gary Samore is Executive Director for Research at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University. He is also a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution. Previously, Dr. Samore worked at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) as Vice President and Maurice R. Greenberg Chair (2006-09). Before joining CFR, Dr. Samore worked at other prestigious foundations and think tanks such as the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in Chicago and International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. He also served for four years as President Obama’s White House Coordinator for Arms Control and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), including as U.S. Sherpa for the 2010 Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, D.C. and the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, Korea. Dr. Samore was a National Science Foundation fellow at Harvard University, where he received his M.A. and Ph.D. in government in 1984.
