Dr. Kang is Director and Vice President of the Department of Financial Policy at the Korea Development Institute (KDI). Before joining KDI in 2000, he taught macroeconomics at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghampton. Then he worked for the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) of Korea, participating in numerous financial restructuring projects after Korea’s financial crisis. During his tenure at KDI, Dr. Kang has conducted research in the area of finance and the macroeconomy. Previously, he also worked for the Department of Economics at the OECD as an economist on secondment from 2007 to 2009 and served as a consultant for the World Bank and ADB. Dr. Kang now serves as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) and a member of the Financial Development Committee for the Financial Services Commission (FSC) in Korea. Dr. Kang holds a B.A. in economics from Seoul National University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.
