Mr. Miyake is President of the Foreign Policy Institute, a private think-tank in Tokyo. He is also concurrently Research Director for Foreign and National Security Affairs at the Canon Institute for Global Studies and a Visiting Professor at Ritsumeikan University. From 2006 to 2007, he served as Executive Assistant to Mrs. Akie Abe in the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan. Professor Miyake joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 1978 and served in various positions until 2005. His most recent positions included: Deputy Director-General of the Middle East Bureau; Minister at the Embassy of Japan in Iraq and Japan’s Representative to the CPA; Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Japan in Iraq; Minister at the Embassy of Japan in China; Director of the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty Division; and Director of the First Middle East Division and Second Middle East Division. He graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Tokyo.
