Dr. Nguyen is the director of the Nuclear Research Institute (NRI) at the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute. He is also the vice-president of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute while concurrently serving as the director of the NRI. Previously, he was also an invited professor at Dalat University and a researcher at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna City in the Russian Federation. He received his undergraduate degree from Hanoi National University and his Ph.D. in nuclear electronics from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Russia.
