Dr. Ren is professor of international politics at Fudan University and the director of the Center for the Study of Chinese Foreign Policy. Prior to this, he recently served as first secretary at the Chinese Embassy in Japan. Dr. Ren studied at the University of Essex in England (1990-1991) and held research or teaching positions at the University of Turku, Nagoya University, and The George Washington University. His recent publications are New Frontiers of China’s Foreign Relations (co-editor with Allen Carlson); “Traditional Chinese Theory and Practice of Foreign Relations: A Reassessment”; and “Between Adapting and Shaping: China’s Role in Asian Regional Cooperation.” Dr. Ren also serves on the editorial boards of several international academic or policy journals including Globalizations; Journal of Global Policy and Governance; East Asia: An International Quarterly; and East Asian Policy. He is a member of the Chinese National Committee of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific. He received his Ph.D. in political science from Fudan University in 1992.
