John William Warner

Senator (Ret) Warner is currently a Senior Advisor at the law firm of Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C. He is also a former Senator from Virginia and served five consecutive terms after first being elected to the United States Senate in 1978. Senator Warner served on the Senate Armed Services Committee, including three periods as Chairman, and was viewed as one of the most influential senators on military and foreign policy issues. He also served on several other committees including the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; Select Committee on Intelligence; Commerce Committee; Environmental and Public Works Committee; and the Rules Committee. Before entering the Senate, Senator Warner was the Secretary of the Navy (1972-1974); Undersecretary of the Navy (1969-1972); and the Department of Defense representative to the Law of the Sea talks in Geneva (1969-1972). Earlier in his career, Senator Warner practiced law in a private law firm (1960-1969); served as an assistant United States Attorney (1956-1960); and was a law clerk in the United States Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C. Senator Warner also served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War (1950-1952) and the United States Navy during World War II. He received a B.S. degree from Washington and Lee University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School.
