Panel Description
The Indo-Pacific’s security architecture is evolving to meet the tasks of a new era. In addition to multilateral architecture such as ASEAN, the region is increasingly defined by minilateralism. AUKUS and the Quad, as well as the trilateral U.S.-led cooperation relationships, are also being integrated. The U.S.-led latticework of alliances and strategic partnerships has thickened in recent years by signing new security agreements, conducting multinational military exercises, and revising command and control arrangements. Could this wave of minilateral arrangements be the beginning of an “Asian NATO”? Can regional multilateralism be revitalized? What is the future of emerging security architecture?
