Dr. James J. Przystup is Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Strategic Research at the National Defense University. Dr. Przystup has worked on Asia-related issues for over thirty years in both the private and public sector. In the private sector he worked at the Itochu Corporation and IBM World Trade Americas/Far East Corporation. In the public sector, he worked as the Department of State’s Policy Planning Staff under Secretary of State George P. Shultz and as Senior Member responsible for East Asia and the Pacific under Secretary of State James A. Baker III. In the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, he worked as Director for Regional Security Strategies on the Policy Planning Staff. Dr. Przystup received his B.A. from the University of Detroit and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
