Tae Yong Ho

Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea
Plenary Session 4 - "Dealing with North Korea Nuclear Threat"

Mr. Tae Yong Ho is a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea for the Gangnam Gab district. He is the first Korean from North Korea to be elected by constituents as a member of the National Assembly. He has since been appointed as the ruling party’s (People Power Party) International Relations Committee Chairman, selected as the Vice Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Unification of the National Assembly. He has also been elected as a member of the Supreme Council of the People Power Party (PPP). He currently sits on the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Unification of the National Assembly. Before his escape from the North Korean regime, he worked as a career diplomat for North Korea for over 28 years. His postings were mainly involved with European Affairs. He was stationed in Denmark, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, where he held the position of deputy ambassador. After his defection to the Republic of Korea in 2016, he served as an advisory researcher at the Institute for National Security Strategy. After his departure from the institute, he established the Coalition for Change in North Korea Foundation, which he served at as the chief representative. Mr. Tae received his B.A. in English Literature from Beijing Foreign Studies University and his M.A. in Law from Kookmin University.
