Lee Chung Min

Dr. Lee Chung Min is a Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and University Professor, Institute of Security Convergence at the KAIST. He is also Chairman of the International Advisory Council of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Prior to joining the Carnegie Institute in 2018 and KAIST in 2021, Dr. Lee taught for twenty years at Yonsei University’s Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS). He has also worked at the RAND Corporation (1995-1998), the Sejong Institute (1989-1994), and the National Institute for Defense Studies (Tokyo, 1994-1995). He is an expert on Korean and Asian defense, conflicts and wars in Asia, intelligence, and defense technologies. Lee is the author of Fault Lines in a Rising Asia (2016) and Hermit King: The Dangerous Game of Kim Jong Un (2019). He is finishing an Adelphi book for IISS on South Korea’s defense choices that will be published in early 2024. In addition to his academic career, Dr. Lee also served as Ambassador for International Security Affairs (2008-2010) and Ambassador for National Security Affairs (2013-2016). He received his B.A. from Yonsei University (1982) and his M.A.L.D. and Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University (1988).
