Maj. Gen. Gera (Ret.) is a telecommunication engineer. He is currently working as a consultant and head of research at the United Service Institution of India (USI). Previously, he served as the deputy director and editor of the USI for more than a decade. His duties also involved overseeing research project studies by research scholars. He authored Non Conventional Threat Perceptions in the Indian Context, and edited Peace and Stability in Afghanistan: The Way Ahead and Peace and Stability in Asia-Pacific Region: Assessment of the Security Architecture. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, and completed the Long Defence Management Course from the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad as well as the National Security Management course from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. He is an alumnus of the National Defence College of India.
