Panel Description
Growing uncertainties in the security arena, such as North Korea’s nuclear and missile provocations and the war in Ukraine, increase the necessity of military-security cooperation among allies. The Fourth Industrial Revolution, competition over technology, and the emergence of “Economic Security” expand the areas of cooperation to include economies, technology, supply chains, and values. However, an economic recession may cause divisions among allies. What characteristics will the future security environment have? Can the current alliance system respond to growing uncertainties in such an environment? What challenges and opportunities will an alliance face amid a changing international order? How will alliances transform in substance and orientation?
